10:10 AM - 11:00 AMMajor Projects in Local Government: Emerging Trends
Local Government delivers many significant projects. In doing so it faces increased scrutiny of risk management and probity considerations as a result of the introduction of the ICAC legislation. Mabel Tam and Mary-Alice Paton will draw on their experience to discuss strategies for the management of commercial and probity risks for major projects. Mark Henderson will highlight these principles by reference to a case study of an ongoing LGMA Award for Excellence winning project.

Paul Kelly and Dale Mazzachi will reflect on the implementation of the South Australian Public Health Act 2011, including industry trends, regional public health planning, lessons learnt from practical operation, and potential pitfalls. As the leading practitioners in South Australia in the area of food safety law, they will also provide an update on a number of recent successful food prosecutions across the State.

Property Dealings and Valuations
The need for valuations arises in many property-based transactions including compulsory acquisitions, sales and purchases of land and market reviews of rent under lease or licence arrangements. This session with Michael Ryan and Yari McCall will examine common valuation situations and outline methodologies to assist with obtaining the best "value" from valuations and will include insights from a guest property valuer.
The Relationship Between the Code of Conduct, Common Law & Implied Contract Terms: A Match Made in Heaven?
The two relatively new concepts of a legislated Code of Conduct and implied terms of mutual trust and confidence have changed the landscape of the employer/employee relationship. Sathish Dasan will walk you through a step by step guide outlining your obligations both as an employer and employee, and point out how these issues can be best dealt with when drafting employment contracts and on a day-to-day basis in the workplace.

1:30 PM - 3:30 PMWitness Box Superstar
Have you given evidence in Court, or do you expect you will in the future? It is often not as easy as it seems, with difficult barristers trying to pick apart your evidence and credibility and heated issues making your blood boil. Learn how to be a witness box superstar with David Billington and Paul Kelly. First, we expertly narrate a brief mock trial so that you can understand why questions are asked and learn what good and bad answers look like. Next we give you concrete tips to improve your performance. Both expert and lay evidence will be covered. Finally, as time allows, we'll open up the witness box for you to practice what we preach - we'll ask the questions, you give the answers! This is a small-group workshop session limited to 20 people. First in, best dressed.
