Following his admission to practice Hugh served as the Associate to Justice Jacobs of the Supreme Court of South Australia and then joined Norman Waterhouse in 1980.
Since then Hugh has handled all manner of property and business transactions for commercial clients of the firm.
As the principal solicitor for the Gerard Industries Group nationally, since January 1988, Hugh has overseen and/or personally attended to their complete range of legal service requirements including:
From October 2002 to December 2003 Hugh was the lead partner on the team established to act for the Gerard family in the sale of the core electrical business of the Gerard Industries Group to the Schneider Group of France for AUD $750m.
Following that transaction Hugh continues to act for the Gerard family and the Gerard Corporation Group.
From 1999 until 2003 Hugh acted for East African Gold Mines Ltd and its Tanzanian subidiary Afrika Mashariki Gold Mines Ltd regarding the development of a 2 million oz gold mine in Tanzania. This work involved substantial litigation in the Tanzanian High Court on a Mining Act dispute. Hugh also acted in the corporate reorganisation of the group and its process plant construction and financing contracts.
Since 1990 Hugh has also acted as principal partner overseeing the commercial legal work for the Stratco Group of companies which operates throughout Austraila.
Hugh is extensively qualified on issues
concerning national and international commercial and property transactions.
