General capability and experience:
Martha was admitted in 2001. She joined Norman Waterhouse in May 2002 having
worked previously in a specialist environmental law firm and within the Crown
Solicitor's Office out posted to the Environment Protection Agency as its in-house
lawyer.
Areas of Specialty:
- Provides advice on matters arising under the Development Act 1993, including
development assessment, the regulation of building work, the plan amendment
report process, land divisions and community title, and the responsibilities
of planning
authorities under disability discrimination legislation. Drafts statutory
instruments under the Development Act including enforcement notices
and Land Management Agreements.
- Provides advice and training on matters arising
under the Environment Protection Act 1993 and representation in appeals
and prosecutions
under that legislation.
Provides strategic advice and appears as an advocate before the Environment
Protection Authority. Provides advice on related environmental and
natural resource management
issues including Public and Environmental Health, Native Vegetation
protection, National Environment Protection Measures, and the management
of land
contamination.
- Has extensive experience in training, including teaching
National and International Environmental Law at TAFE, running workshops
in Environmental
Law Practice
as part of the Law Society's Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice,
presenting seminars
to participants in the University of South Australia's Environmental
Law and Enforcement Training Program.
- Is an executive member of the
National Environmental Law Association and Board member of the Community
Living Project Inc.
