General Capability and Experience

Peter's professional life began in 1974 when he completed his admission requirements with the completion of a five year articled clerkship acquiring education in a broad range of legal disciplines.

In 1981 Peter joined a large commercial legal firm and became a partner there in 1984. During this time Peter practised in the general commercial field with an emphasis on property, corporate advice, finance, and revenue (stamp duty). Peter's clients were in the private sector and their dealings with government required an expertise on, among other things, due diligence.

Peter joined the partnership of Norman Waterhouse in 1988, specialising in property development and general commercial transactions with particular emphasis on major local government transactions. In 2002 he took on the role of Special Counsel, Property.

Because Peter has variously acted for both government enterprises and the private sector he has the benefit of dual-edged experience and has the advantage of understanding the commercial and legal environments in which each of them operate.

Banking, Finance and Insolvency experience

Peter has practised in the areas of banking and finance for many years. His experience covers the documentation of a broad range of financial transactions including:

Experienced in the retail, primary production and manufacturing industries Peter has represented vendors, purchasers, and joint venturers in the acquisition, disposal and development of businesses and their assets, for both government and private sector clients. Consequently he is skilled and experienced in negotiating terms and conditions of sale and development, related employment and industrial issues, financial and transactional requirements, stamp duty, and due diligence processes and assessment.

Peter is the principal legal adviser to the Malaysian MBf Holdings Berhad company which is currently redeveloping Wirrina Cover Paradise tourist resort south of Adelaide with a total development cost of approximately $220m spanning over an eight year period.

He documented a major construction and development contract for the demolition and partial re-instatement of the Osborne Power Station. This matter included negotiating and drafting the contracts with contractors and sub-contractors and on-going contract administration advice from its start in 1994 to date, where removal of asbestos was a major issue.

Peter managed the environmental site audit of a major Adelaide CBD construction site which was contaminated. Today the Australian Taxation Office is situated on this site.

He currently acts for parties involved in five of South Australia's largest property projects. They are:
