Employment and Local Government

General capability and experience

Sathish Dasan is the Partner in charge of the Firm’s Employment and Local Government Advisory Teams.

Sathish is widely experienced in dispute resolution and bargaining with industrial associations on behalf employers, in both Federal, and State industrial relations tribunals and courts.  He is particularly adept at providing advice on equal opportunity and occupational health and safety practices with a particular focus on risk management, as well as advising, and conducting litigation, on all employment-related matters.

His broad client base includes educational institutions, state and local government entities, as well as commercial enterprises in the manufacturing, construction and food processing industries.  His particular professional interest is in the aquaculture and wine industries, which happily enough, are also deep personal interests.

For well over a decade, Sathish has been one of local government's pre-eminent employment law specialists.  Over that time, he has expanded his area of interest and expertise to include all aspects of local government governance and probity issues, with a particular focus on the legal, cultural and organisational issues that lie at the heart of the relationship between elected members, Chief Executive Officers and other Council staff.

Sathish has advised and trained Councils on applying the Local Government Act 1999 in a variety of situations, and he remains one of the leaders in the provision of strategic industrial relations advice in the sector.

Sathish is a graduate of the University of Adelaide, in both Law, and Politics, with Honours.  He is a member of the Law Society of South Australia and the Industrial Relations Society of South Australia.  He also serves as the President of the Australian-Malay Business Council (SA).
