State Wage Case Decision 2025

State Wage Case Decision 2025

Employers are reminded of the increases to the minimum entitlements for local government employees, effectively retrospectively from 1 July 2025.

Norman Waterhouse Lawyers appreciates the opportunity to have once again represented the Local Government Association of South Australia and the Corporation of the City of Adelaide in the State Wage Case 2025.

In the decision delivered on 11 July 2025, the South Australian Employment Tribunal has adopted the decision of the Fair Work Commission (FWC) in its decision in the Annual Wage Review 2024-25. We have discussed the FWC’s decision in a previous article (view here). Consequently, the Minimum Standard for Remuneration has correspondingly increased by 3.5% to $965.10 per week.

Other pertinent changes include:

  • An increase to minimum rates within state awards by 3.5%;
  • An increase in the minimum rates for juniors, trainees and other employees within state by 3.5%;
  • An increase in the State Minimum Award Wage to $965.10 per week;
  • An increase in the minimum rate for supported wages to $110.79 per week.

This alert marks a timely occasion for employers to ensure that their employees are paid no less than the updated minimum entitlements from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025.

It is particularly important that councils whose wage rates in their enterprise agreements are linked to the annual State Wage Case take note of this decision and update their pay rates accordingly.
