Norman Waterhouse
We can assist our clients with a divorce or provide them with the names of marriage guidance counsellors, should they want to explore the possibility of reconciliation. It is important to obtain our expert advice in relation to the effects of a divorce order on financial matters and your will.

Our approach

We understand that this can be a very difficult and stressful time for many people and as such we aim to guide our clients through the process in a manner that is both sensitive and efficient. If needed, we are able to recommend expert counsellors to help our clients and to assist them in matters concerning their children.

If you decide to divorce, you may file an application after you and your partner have been separated for 12 months. During that period, you must have lived separately and apart within the meaning of the Family Law Act (1975). Under the provisions of the Family Law Act, it is possible for you and your partner to have lived together under the same roof for part or all of the requisite 12 month separation period. We can prepare and file the divorce application on your behalf and attend the hearing at Court for you.

It is important to understand that an Application for Divorce is separate from property settlement applications and parenting proceedings. You are able to commence and, where possible, finalise those issues prior to filing a divorce application. If you would like advice about these matters please make an appointment to see one of our experienced solicitors.
